**Position Summary**



At Stony Brook Medicine, an Anesthesia Technician is avaluable member of our team, who assist the Anesthesiology Team by assuring allsupplies and equipment are available, clean and/or sterile, and functioningproperly. Qualified candidates willdemonstrate superior patient care and possess outstanding communication skillswhile adhering to our high standard of excellence and adhering to all federal,state and local regulatory standards.



**Duties of an** **Anesthesia Technician may include but are not limited to:**



Provides support for procedures by assisting in thepreparation and maintenance of patient equipment and anesthesia deliverysystems before, during and after anesthesia. Set up, calibrate, operate andmaintain monitoring and anesthesia equipment in advance of procedure starttime. Prepare airway equipment and suction set up. Set up blood warmer, rapidinfuser and transducers as requested. Set up and run cell saver machine for intra-operative blood salvageunder clinical direction. Apply noninvasive monitors on the patient (includingpulse oximetry, EKG, blood pressure cuff, BIS monitor, nerve stimulator). Set up warming blanket apparatus and adjustin accordance with the instructions to regulate proper temperature. Assist inall off-site locations as required: transport equipment, room set up and cleanup. Participate in room turnover team to maintain efficiency in a clean, safeenvironment.



Assist the Anesthesiology Team in the transport of patientsin and out of the procedure suites. Assist in patient positioning foranesthesia procedures as directed. Demonstrates knowledge of airway managementprotocols, including trans-tracheal intubations, fiberoptic scopes, LMAs.Assists during difficult intubations.



Inspect and perform basic maintenance on all equipment usedwithin the department. Ensure andmaintain the sterility and cleanliness of specialized equipment throughadherence to hospital policy and procedures related to infection control andsafety. Management of departmentalsupplies, including monitoring for outdated items and par levels.



Participate in Anesthesia CQI Team to improve the efficiencyof patient care and equipment management in the operating room.



Provide instruction to staff and student Technicians onanesthesia equipment and procedures.

**Required qualifications:**



_Anesthesia Technician I:_ Two years of healthcare experiencein a clinical setting. Minimum of three professional letters of reference fromclinical supervisors.



_Anesthesia Technician II:_ Minimum education level is a Bachelor'sDegree with a concentration/major/specialization in Anesthesia technology froman ASATT accredited program. Minimum of one year of documented clinicaltraining in Anesthesia technology in an ASATT accredited program. A minimum ofthree professional letters of recommendation from clinical supervisor orclinical program faculty will be required.
